Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.

Ruto's US visit enters day 4

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, President William Ruto and his spouse First Lady Rachel will pay their respects by laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery, honouring fallen American soldiers and other notable figures.

Additionally, they will have a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden to discuss development opportunities.

The visit includes a series of high-level meetings between President Ruto and his counterpart Biden, focusing on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, security, and education.

President Ruto, along with Mama Rachel, landed at Andrews Air Force Base on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, ahead of his meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden.

They were warmly greeted by U.S. First Lady Jill Biden at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, which is about 33 km from Washington, D.C.

The Head of State is also scheduled to meet with a congressional delegation and hold discussions at Capitol Hill, the U.S. legislative house equivalent to a parliament.

Thursday blackout

Kenya Power has announced a planned electricity blackout for routine network maintenance on Thursday, May 23, 2024, affecting five counties.

In Nairobi County, the blackout will impact part of Garden Estate, specifically Garden Estate Road and adjacent customers. The power outage is scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Nakuru County will also experience an outage, affecting Majani Mingi and Testai. The affected areas include the whole of Majani Mingi Center, Sinendet, Testai, Kokwomoi, Majani Mingi Safaricom Booster, and surrounding customers. The blackout will last from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Kisumu County's Nyamasaria area is on the list of affected regions. The power cut will span from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Nyamasaria, Molum, Jumbo Mattresses, Ndovu, Rabuor, Mega City, Ahero Girls, part of Ahero Town, and nearby customers.

In Kakamega County, the power interruption will occur in Kambi Mwanza and Shamberere. The specific areas include Kambi Mwanza Market, Shamberere Polytechnic, West Sugar, Ngavira Market, KWS, Kambiri Market, Eleho Market, Bulovi Market, and adjacent customers. The scheduled outage is from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Kiambu County's Juja Mukinyi Road area will also be affected. The blackout will impact Kiaora Farm Estate, Mtaro Farm Estate, and surrounding customers, with the outage scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
