Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today's happenings.

Ruto's continued US engagements

After meeting his host, US President Joe Biden, President William Ruto is set to continue with his other engagements as his state visit almost concludes.

Ruto has been in the US for a five-day visit, and his engagements have drawn public attention, especially in the country.

Among the concessions the president has sought from the US is help in tackling climate change.

"We cannot afford to resign to fate over the deadly climate crisis. The world must get back to work and take bold, unusual, and path-breaking action to safeguard our ecosystem.

"We can only keep our communities safe and healthier through the healing of our planet," Ruto said during an address at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Centre, Washington, D.C., USA.

He also oversaw the launch of the Kenya Urban Mobility and Growth Threshold Programme, which is expected to tackle the economic growth challenges related to land use and transport planning in the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.

Floods warning

Although the flooding crisis in the country has subsided, the state has warned of serious flooding and backflow in counties in the Lake Victoria and Lake Baringo basins and in Tana River and Garissa counties.

The Ministry of Interior has said lakes Victoria and Baringo are projected to continue causing backflow and flooding in several counties.

The overflow of the Seven Forks Dams still exacerbates flooding in the Tana Delta and impacts Garissa, Tana River, and Lamu Counties.

According to the government's record, a total of 307 people have lost their lives due to severe weather conditions across the country, with no fatalities reported in the last two days.

A cumulative 188 people have been reported injured, while 40 people are still missing, according to a statement from the ministry.

The report further states that approximately 410,352 people have been impacted by the rains, while the number of displaced households is currently 54,936, affecting approximately 274,680 people.

As the rain season continues, the public will keenly follow updates, especially from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
