Trans Nzoia County gubernatorial candidate Jim Nduruchi has suffered a significant blow after his running mate Luke Naibei defected and joined former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya's camp.

Naibei defected with over 25 ward coordinators, giving Natembeya a boost in his gubernatorial bid.

Speaking to the press, Naibei said they chose to join Natembeya of DAP-K because he is the frontrunner in the race.

"After lengthy consultations, we have decided to alight from Nduruchi's camp and board Natembeya's bandwagon. We believe this is the winning team based on his clear agenda," Naibei said.

Naibei said Natembeya would liberate the people of Trans Nzoia County from poverty.

"We believe in Natembeya's clarion call that ukimombozi umefika Trans Nzoia," he said.

Natembeya now wants Chris Wamalwa to support him

He revealed that he has formally written to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) notifying it of his decision and warned Nduruchi not to use his portrait in his posters.

"IEBC is aware of this, and my brother Nduruchi should cease using my portrait on his posters. If he goes against this, he will deal with my lawyers," he warned.

Natembeya called on his closest competitor Chris Wamalwa to follow suit and support him in the hotly contested race.

"The window is still open. We are asking Chris Wamalwa, our worthy competitor, to shelf his ambition and join us. We will accommodate him and his team in our government," he joked.
