Sengwer pregnant women at Makutano Ward in Trans Nzoia County have had a rough time while seeking maternal healthcare services due to poor road infrastructure in the area.

The minority community, which resides on the slopes of Cherang'any hills at Kapchemakwer village, said the poor road network and lack of health facilities is a major challenge for the women in the area.

"A woman who was due for delivery was recently carried in a gunny bug to access a far-flung health facility since our road is in bad state," Elijah Yaraten, a resident whose neighbor was affected, said.

They said the feeder road which connects to Makutano center has been in bad condition even after it was repaired by the county government in the last financial year.

"We are surprised that our area MCA Stephen Njoroge has kept a blind eye on this challenge yet he made pledges to improve our infrastructure during the campaigns," Lina Chepkoech said.

They also accused several government entities of segregating them in job opportunities even when their children have the necessary academic qualifications.

"We have been made to look like aliens since we are not given the same treatment as other residents. We are only valued when it comes to voting since our numbers are required," another resident Patrick Kimutai said.

They now want the county government to repair the road and set up a nearby dispensary to offer them basic healthcare.
