The Kenya National Union of Teachers’ (Knut) officials have asked the Teachers Service Commission to ensure teachers who were delocalized are transferred back to their home counties.

Speaking in Isiolo yesterday during the county Knut branch elections, national officials led by Assistant Secretary General Rosalia Mkanjala said most teachers who were transferred far from their homes had suffered a lot.

They asked the employer to fast track the process of bringing them back to their original work stations.

Mkanjala (pictured) further claimed that the payslips of some of the delocalised teachers still read their previous work stations.

She said union officials were following up the matter with TSC to ensure details are updated to enable concerned teachers earn due benefits. “This year, over 30,000 teachers have been employed by the government due to the introduction of junior secondary school. Special  training sessions are still ongoing to equip them with relevant skills,” she said.

She urged the teachers to communicate any challenges they face to the union officials so that they can be addressed appropriately.

During the elections, only the top position of the Executive Secretary was contested.

Hassan Diba Halake garnered 167 votes to beat his only challenger Kalla Abdi Risak who garnered 57 votes.

While making his maiden speech, Halake told members that he will immediately get down to work.

The Executive Secretary position was left vacant when Dade Boru was appointed the Isiolo County Secretary.

The National Union officials asked all teachers to accord the new office holders support in order to ensure that they deliver on their mandate.
