Tujibebe Wakenya party leader William Kabogo has finally thrown his hat in the ring for Kiambu governor race.

His decision heightens the fight for the seat currently held by James Nyoro.

The former governor has been sending mixed signals, indicating he may be going for the presidency, but on Sunday, while addressing a political rally in Thika, said he has bowed to pressure from the electorate to contest the governor seat.

“I have been listening to the people of Kiambu who want me to contest the governor’s seat.

I will obey your wishes despite the fact that I was interested in the presidency,” Kabogo said during the event also attended by One Kenya Alliance principals Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetang’ula.

Other political giants eyeing the Kiambu seat include Nyoro, former Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndicho and Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina.

Waititu and Wainaina are expected to fight for the United Democratic Alliance ticket while Nyoro, Ndicho and Wamatangi are yet to declare parties of choice.

Nyoro, who was elected along with Waititu on a Jubilee ticket, has been associating with the Azimio la Umoja fraternity led by Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga while Ndicho and Wamatangi have kept people guessing about their political allegiance.

However, Nyoro recently joined his other colleagues from Mt Kenya region to declare they will be seeking to form another political party other than Jubilee ahead of the General Election.
