At least, 50 Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) churches affiliated to South Kenya Conference (SKC) have severed ties with it and joined Nairobi Cosmopolitan Conference (NCC), ending a four-year protracted leadership tussle.

Led by Alloys Mokono (pictured), the elders and pastors said church members resolved to pull out after the SKC leadership allegedly failed to address their grievances.

He said the churches, drawn from the larger South Mugirango area, Kisii county will be under Gosere Mission Station, linked to Nairobi Cosmopolitan Conference.

In a statement he read after a church service at Ikoba Primary School, the elder said they are still members of SDA church and will continue with their mission of evangelisation.

The elder said they tried to negotiate and resolve the conflict but the SKC leadership never heeded their call, prompting the churches to bolt out and join NCC.

“We, the former Gosere Station under SKC under the SDA church are happy to report to the world that after windy and torturous years, we have finally found a home in NCC, SDA church,” Mokono emphasized.

He said the members lacked freedom of worship and association when they were under SKC, stressing their aspirations will be fulfilled within the NCC.

Mokono, flanked by church elders and pastors, told the SKC to respect their decision to pull out and shun harassing and intimidating church members using security officers.
