Tusker end stuttering league start
For Tusker FC, it seems there is a silver lining in their quest to challenge for the Betking Premier League top honours despite a shaky start.
Tusker, who lost 2-1 to AFC Leopards in the first match of the 2020/21 season, have suddenly woken from their slumber after defeating Vihiga United 1-0 on Sunday to jump to fourth position with seven points out of four matches played.
The Brewers were a completely different side in the match against newly promoted Vihiga with head coach Robert Matano giving plaudits to his charges for a job well done.
“The confidence is back but obviously, the worst we can do is to rest on our laurels since it is too early in the season.
I have instructed the players to keep working hard to get the desired results,” said Matano.
In the meantime, the Cinderella story by AFC Leopards was checked when they allowed Western Stima to score two stoppage time goals on Friday to hand Ingwe their first defeat of the season.
Before the loss, the Big Cats had been on a roll, taking an early lead in the league and will have to pull up their socks in the rest of the fixtures if they harbour hopes of clinching the title which has eluded them since 1998.
In the meantime, pride of place goes to KCB who not only dislodged Leopards from the top of the league but also stretched their hundred percent record with a 2-1 victory over hosts Bandari at Mbaraki sports ground.
Zedekiah Otieno’s star as KCB coach seems to be shining brighter as the team continues to send a statement of intent which should serve as a warning to their opponents.
As KCB were winning, Ulinzi Stars, on the contrary, are yet to notch a win with the Soldiers managing a mere barren draw with Wazito in Kasarani.
Ulinzi are placed in 16th with a single point and will need to work extremely hard to turn round their dwindling fortunes.
The same case applies to Sofapaka who fell 2-1 to Kariobangi Sharks in Wundanyi.
Last week, Batoto ba MUngu made radical changes in their technical bench by firing John Baraza who they replaced with Mike Mururi and will have to go back to the drawing board to device a winning strategy.
Another newly promoted side Bidco United also needs attention after plucking points in a barren draw with pre-match favourites Nairobi City Stars.
Meanwhile, Ken Odhiambo may have quit his position as Bandari FC head coach.
The former Kenyan international was not at the dugout when the Dockers lost to KCB FC 2-1 on Friday afternoon.
