Ugenya: Police officer accused of rape
Police in Ugenya have launched investigations into a rape case where a 33-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a police officer attached to Sega police post on Monday, 12 April.
The woman whose name is concealed, claimed that she was raped by the officer inside Sega Police station cells on Monday morning after she was arrested for violating COVID-19 rules while on her way to the shop.
She said that she was arrested for failing to wear a face mask and later locked up at the police cells where the officer whom she clearly identified approached her and demanded to have a sexual intercourse with her though according to records at Sega police post, the woman was not even booked.
“ I left home to shop items for the breakfast and fpogot to wear mask and while passing by Sega police post gate, I was called by a police officer who harassed me while questioning why I was not wearing and despite pleading for forgiveness, the officer held me by my shoulder and began making sexual advances but I declined to cooperate and was thrown on a room adjacent to the cells," she explained.
The woman struggled and resisted resist but the officer locking her inside the room and threatened to shoot her if she dared to make any noise, and then repeatedly raped her inside the police station before releasing her.
“The police officer ordered me to clean the room and while doing so, he crept and held me tightly by my back and we struggled for some ten minutes before he undressed and raped me at gun point,” she explained.
The woman added that she then went straight to the nearby hospital where she sought treatment before reporting later the matter.
"On Monday, the officer released me and ordered me out of the compound and it’s that time that I used my phone to alert family who rushed me to Sega hospital in Ugenya where I was treated and discharged,” she said.
The woman added that she in company of other family members recorded a statement at Ukwala police station where all officers attacked to Sega police post were summoned and paraded.
On Wednesday, 14 April all the officers who are attached to Sega Police station were paraded at Ukwala police where the woman identified the one who raped her but to her surprise, she was dismissed.
“I pointed to them one of the officer whom they claimed was on night shift. I appeal to the state to help me seek justice,” she added.
The woman, who is now crying for justice, stating that she was rubbished and told that she only chose on the person who was on duty that day and not the person whom she claims to have raped her.
