President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed various ministries to complete the issuing of one million title deeds in three weeks.

A letter signed by the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua instructs all Cabinet Secretaries to oversee the distribution of a million out of 6 million titles processed during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, by July 20th.

Kinyua also lists the schedule of the counties allocated to each individual CS together with the summary of the title deeds to be issued.

Ministries are required to liaise with the respective Regional Commissioners to organise the requisite meetings for issuance and file returns of all titles issued to Kinyua by July 21.

According to the schedule, Siaya county has the highest number of titles to be issued at 150,652, followed by Meru with 106,893 and Machakos 92,606. “ In this regard it is directed that the issuance of title deeds be concluded obi r before 20th July 2022,. Ministries liaise with the respective regional commissioner to organize the requisite events and the ministerial returns of all titles be filled to the undersigned by 21st July 202,” read Kinyua’s letter.

According to the circular Coast region has been assigned Cabinet Secretaries Najib Balala, Farida Karoney and Amina Mohamed.

Eugene Wamalwa and George Magoha will take care of Western Kenya while Monica Juma, Fred Matiang’i, Margaret Kobia and Peter Munya will be in Eastern.

Joe Mucheru, James Macharia and Mutahi Kagwe will coordinate the exercise in Central region as Keriako Tobiko, Betty Maina and Simon Chelugui oversee Rift Valley.

President Kenyatta while rolling out the title deed issuance a week ago, alleged that there were land grabbers whose job was to move around looking for idle land which they can claim ownership of.

Uhuru, who kicked off the latest phase of the national title deeds issuance programme that will see the immediate issuance of one million title deeds to land owners across the country, singled out Nairobi and Mombasa counties as the worst affected by land grabbing.

“There are those people who are used to stealing public resources, they used to move around the country be it Nairobi or Mombasa to look for idle land and where they get it they claim ownership to it, you all know about this but now this is in the past,” said Uhuru.

Uhuru told Kenyans to elect leaders who will be able to continue with the reforms that he started and not those that will take Kenya back to the old days.

While issuing 200 title deeds to signify the start of the programme at the International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Uhuru directed the Cabinet Secretaries for Lands and Interior to come up with a programme that will involve other Cabinet Secretaries in the issuance of the balance of the ready title deeds to expeditiously execute the exercise.

“Today, we are launching and flagging off the issuance of 1 million out of 6 million title deeds that are ready across the registries in the various counties.

“The programme should be executed expeditiously such that before sunset on the Eighth of July, 2022 the balance of the one 1 million title deeds will have been conveyed to their holders,” he directed.
