Uhuru pre-empted the BBI contents at Sagana
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, November 15 revealed that he reached out to Raila Odinga amid simmering political tensions after the August 8, 2017, general election.
It is after his meeting with Raila that they sought to avert possible political violence in the future, revealed Uhuru Kenyatta.
The results of the Uhuru-Raila meeting were the 'Handshake' and later, Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) whose report is yet to be released to Kenyans.
Kenyatta was speaking in an inhouse meeting with political leaders from Mt.Kenya region at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County.
The Head of State calmed the political tension in the region which has virtually divided it into two factions; DP Ruto allies, and Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) supporters.
"By January 2018, this country was on the verge of splitting into two political systems. I was hearing of violence in Huruma, Kibera and people swearing in themselves"
President Kenyatta also revealed that he just chose to ignore Raila's controversial swearing-in as the 'People's President' in 2018. Uhuru reached out to Raila after the 'swearing-in' ceremony, which occurred on January 30, 2018.
"After what I saw, I decided to look for this man, Baba. I wondered why he had problems with Kenyans. I told him: 'Even if it is stoning people, then throw the stones at me, instead'," Said Uhuru eliciting light laughter among the Mt.Kenya leaders.
