Former Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga now says the sustained political exchanges between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are unhealthy for social-economic and political wellbeing of the country.

Kigo said that the intensified rift between the two has the capacity to destroy the economic strides the country has made since the 2007 political violence.

Kigo who spoke in Gatundu on Thursday regretted that while Kenyans suffered as a result of political violence resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property, a similar script is likely to be displayed after August 9 polls.

"Stop these exchanges. I beseech you all to stop as this will not only destroy your legacies but might also injure the current peaceful coexistence of the country," he said.

He said that in six months, the President will be an ordinary Kenyan and should exercise impartiality as he is the symbol of national unity.

"He has one vote like he recently said and should allow Kenyans to decide on their own," he added.

President Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto have recently been embroiled in a tug of political exchanges with each blaming the other for the misses made in their joint Jubilee government that took over power since 2013.

The rift between the duo became apparent after the March 9, 2018 when President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga joined forces through the famous handshake and resolved to work together to unite the country.

The partnership birthed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional review process which was heavily criticized by DP Ruto.

Ruto has constantly been labelling the process as a pursuit by a few elite individuals to create positions for themselves.
