Uhuru to rope in more youth in his government

President Uhuru Kenyatta is going to appoint more young Chief Administrative Secretaries to have more youth representation in government.

During a virtual launch of a new multi-sector partnership designed to ensure more than 30 million young Kenyans receive education, training or employment by 2030, the President assured the youth the government will be engaging with them more closely in order to be able to understand and address their challenges.

“I will be adding a fairly good number of young CASs to the Cabinet very soon so that we can have targeted interface between you and the government,” the President told the youth who participated in the Zoom launch of Generation Unlimited (GenU) targeting youth aged between 10 and 24 years.

The initiative, a global programme, has the support and blessings of the UN and other partners.

Catalyse change

The head of State directed the two youthful CASs already in government; Nadia Abdalla and Zack Kinuthia at the Ministry of ICT and Education respectively, to engage with young people and get to know their specific challenges.

UN Resident Coordinator in Kenya, Siddharth Chatterjee who also addressed the meeting said the entire United Nations system in Kenya is united in its efforts to make Kenya a poster child of success and deliver as one to advance GenU Kenya.

“We are committed to help drive forward this ambitious programme to catalyse change for young people, their families and their communities, across the country,” he added.

GenU aims to help young people successfully transition between primary and secondary school and then on to University.

It also focuses on nurturing entrepreneurship and promoting equitable access to employment opportunities, including during the Covid-19 pandemic.
