Ulinzi Starlets run riot
Goals from Susan Nyansarora and Joan Akoth gave SEP Oyugis their first win of the season in their match against Trans Nzoia Falcons as the Women’s Premier League entered its fourth round in the weekend.
Going into the match, the Festus Juma charges wasted no time in giving the favourites a run for their money with a first minute goal.
Nyansarora ensured her first touch on their home ground, Kotieno Primary, gave them the opener but their celebration was short lived.
Trans Nzoia leveled through Violet Nanjala in the eleventh minute but the host would have none of it as they scored the winner two minutes later through Akoth.
With the win, Oyugis can now breathe a sigh of relief as they are off the relegation zone.
Vihiga continued their winning streak, keeping a clean sheet in a 5-0 annihilation of Eldoret Falcons.
This was Falcon’s third win in four matches and the loss saw them drop back to the relegation zone in seventh place owing to goal difference.
Meanwhile, Wadadia picked a 4-0 win against Oserain as another Zone B clash between Kisumu All Starlets and Nakuru West Queens ended in a barren draw.
In Zone A, Ulinzi Starlets were the biggest winner of the weekend as they humiliated winless Mathare 9-0.
Former champions Thika Queens remain top of the table with a 2-0 win over Makolanders, stretching their winning streak to four matches.
Mwanahalima Adam who has since returned to the country after her move to Israeli’s league fell through opened the scoring for Thika in the 34th minute before Wincate Kaari added the second nine minutes into the second half for the win.
In other Zone A matches, Ulinzi Starlets were the biggest winners as they humiliated winless Mathare 9-0.
Zetech Sparks fought hard for a first win in a 4-3 outcome against Kayole Starlets while Gaspo were held to a goalless draw by Kibera Soccer.
Vihiga’s lethal forward Terry Engesha grabbed a hat-trick bagging her goals in the 10th, 15th and 71st minutes of the match.
Vivian Nasaka and Alice Muderi added to Vihiga’s count in the 24th and 81st minutes respectively.
Their win put a dent on Trans Nzoia’s perfect run, handing the Kitale-based side their first defeat in four matches.
The three dropped points move Trans Nzoia to second place at nine points as Vihiga Queens moved up to top of the Zone B table.
