Former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has said she will not listen to dissenting voices that want her to drop her quest to become the new Nairobi Governor come the General elections on August 9.

“I’m not leaving it (governorship ) seat to anyone and you can rest assured that. I have even paid for the party ticket and as such I want to urge the people of Nairobi to shun prophets of doom who are going round peddling lies that I have dropped my bid,” she affirmed.

Wanjiru, who will be vying for the plum position on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, said she is ready to bite the bullet, the anticipated stiff challenge in the polls notwithstanding.

“I am unmoved by the strong field of candidates for the governor’s seat in Nairobi and I believe I’m the right nominee to serve the electorate in the cosmopolitan city. To me, leaving the seat to someone else will be totally foolhardy,” she said.

Wanjiru comments come after it emerged Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, an ally of Mudavadi was being propped as the candididate.

Acknowledging the recent pact between deputy president William Ruto and  Amani National Congress (ANC) Musalia Mudavadi, Wanjiru said nothing would stop her from bidding for governor and dared Sakaja to bring step up the fight.

The cleric said she was the first person to announce that she would vie for the governorship seat hence nothing would stop her from fighting until the end.

“ We welcome visitors but they should understand how our house operates. For the last close to one year I have been moving in all corners of the capital selling my agenda.

Most of the people in Nairobi know and understand what I am capable of doing. Why should I be afraid of someone who has not been on the ground?,” she posed.

Key to her agenda, Wanjiru says she will deal with the perennial water problems that have bedeviled the city.

Already, Wanjiru has settled on Hospital Hill ward MCA Patrick Musili as her deputy, a key strategy which she says will help her clinch the Kamba community vote. Nevertheless, the pact between Ruto and Mudavadi could complicate matters for Wanjiru as there are those who argue Sakaja could manage Nairobi better than her.
