Deputy President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to uphold unity and embrace one another for the economic wellbeing of the country.

The DP who spoke in Karatina, Nyeri said that Kenya has made many progressive steps on developments and any calls against that should be disregarded by all Kenyans.

He maintained that Kenyans across the political divide have a duty to transform their country by preaching peace and embarking on prosperity driven nation building programs.

"It's our duty to transform our country. We have made many progressive steps, we should never allow striding back," he said.

The Second in Command reiterated that his government, should he succeed his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, will set aside Ksh 50 billion annually, money that he said will be given as free-interest loans to the lowly to help them boost the small and medium enterprises.

Ruto who is on a three-day tour to Nyeri accused his fiercest opponent Raila Odinga of failing to support President Kenyatta when he needed his support most.

He urged Nyeri residents to rally behind his presidential bid, promising them that his government will turn around their economic misfortunes.

During his visit, Ruto donated Ksh 1 million to Mutumba traders and Ksh 3 million for Karatina traders to boost their businesses.

When he spoke to address the traders, Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua who also donated Ksh 1 million to the traders said that small traders have suffered a lot in the hands of President Uhuru.

He took issue with a section of Nyeri leaders for planning to stall DP Ruto's tour, and acclaimed locals for turning out in large numbers to welcome him.
