Upsurge leaves Kinyanjui mulling imposition of tougher restrictions
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has threatened to impose additional tougher coronavirus restrictions.
According to the county boss, his administration may have to reach that decision after witnessing the rapid spread of the disease in recent weeks.
He has blamed the same to residents’ laxity to heed anti-corona guidelines. He is expected to announce new containment measures, after intense deliberations with relevant stakeholders including the national government.
“The county government will give a comprehensive announcement on Thursday concerning the same,” said Kinyanjui.
According to Kinyanjui, the preventive measures recently introduced by the national government have not sufficiently stopped the spread of the virus.
Kinyanjui now says his major concern is upsurge in rural areas where a majority are the elderly, who are more susceptible to coronavirus.
Containment measures
Markets, matatu terminus, and entertainment joints are likely to be affected in the new containment measures as they have been cited as high-risk areas in the spread of the virus.
Governor says latest statistics indicate the county has lost at least 70 people to the killer virus.
Kinyanjui fingered hotels, restaurants, bars and nightclubs as being among the most notorious in breaking the Ministry of Health Covid-19 regulations.
So far two nightclubs have had their licenses revoked for 60 days. Crack down on those flouting containment measures is expected to continue.
