The High Court will this morning deliver judgment in the trial of Joseph Irungu alias Jowie and his then girlfriend, television journalist Jackie Maribe in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

Jowie, the main suspect in the case is accused of murdering the businesswoman in September 2018 at Lamuria Gardens in Nairobi.

The judgment will be delivered by Lady Justice Grace Nzioka.

The prosecution, through state counsel Wangui Gichuhi, presented 35 witnesses, some of who were under witness protection, and several pieces of documentary evidence to prove its case against Jowie and Maribe.

False narrative

The prosecution argues that it has tabled water tight evidence to prove its case against the two suspects who have however maintained their innocence in the matter.

According to the prosecution, Maribe conspired with Jowie to create a false narrative that they had been attacked by robbers while entering their house at Royal Park Estate in Lang’ata when Jowie had shot himself.

“At no point did she provide information to police about the murder, only to be seen on Citizen TV the following day announcing the death of Monica when she was fully aware of what had happened,” said Gichuhi.

Dr Peter Ndegwa who performed the post-mortem testified that Monica did not die from natural causes since the death was caused by excessive bleeding due to a severe neck injury.

Jowie and Maribe argued that the prosecution has failed to discharge the burden of prove and asked the judge to set them free.
