Veteran coach Omino to be buried in Siaya tomorrow

Former Kisumu All-Stars coach Henry Omino, who succumbed to Thyroid cancer on March 20, will be buried tomorrow.
His son Marvin Omino, who acted as the family’s spokesperson, said the burial had initially been planned for April 4 but were forced to review the dates after they were given a notice from the mortuary informing them that they could not preserve the body past yesterday.
“We had gone to check if he was being preserved well when the mortuary attendant told us that they could no longer keep the body past 48 hours,” he said.
Omino, who died aged 71, will be laid to rest at his rural home in Ogero village, Gem constituency in Siaya county.
The veteran coach was first diagnosed with the mystery cancer in 2015 and has been in and out of hospital since.
Omino started coaching with Agro Chemicals before joining Western Stima where he was nicknamed “Zagallo”.
He also coached Chemelil Sugar, Sony Sugar and finally Kisumu All Stars in the Kenyan Premier League which he led from 2019 to January this year.
In 2016, he became the first coach to win coach of month after the introduction of the award in KPL.
Kisumu Governor Anyang ‘ Nyong’o in his condolence message said: “On my own behalf, my family, the people of Kisumu and lovers of soccer in Kisumu and across the nation, we take this desperate time to condole with his family and friends praying to God to keep his soul in eternal peace.”
