Veteran journalist appointed Director of Communications by Ruto’s UDA Party
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party, linked to Deputy President William Ruto has appointed veteran journalist Githae Wanjohi to be the Director of Communications.
In a press release issued on Friday by UDA's Secretary-General Veronica Maina, Wanjohi will head the party's print, broadcast and online communications.
"We have appointed Mr Wanjohi Githae as the Party Director of
Communications. Mr Githae brings a wealth of experience in communication and relations," reads in part the press release.
Wanjohi has over 15 years of experience in journalism having served as a political reporter and lately as an editor.
UDA is banking on Githae's wealth of experience to steer its communication activities and build a rapport with local and international newsrooms.
"His wide networks in the Media will assist in nurturing a good
relationship with the Newsrooms," read the press release.
UDA party is chasing time in its preparations for the next General Elections.
The latest appointment comes at the backdrop of calls urging supporters to register as party members.
The party initially formed by Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju as Party of Action (POA) metamorphosed into PDR and now UDA.
PDR had a pre-coalition agreement with the ruling Jubilee in the build-up to 2017 polls.
The ruling Jubilee has however written to the registrar of parties seeking a divorce from the UDA party citing breach of their agreement.
DP Ruto, in a TV interview, said he will work with UDA come 2022 given that it shares common ideologies with the "original" Jubilee Party they formed after several parties folded.
Ruto has been frustrated in the Jubilee Party and was last year labelled persona non grata at Jubilee Party Headquarters in Pangani.
The party accused the DP of using the premises to plan his 2022 campaigns at the time President Uhuru Kenyatta was calling for an end to early campaigns.
