Three-time Kenya Women’s Premier League champions Vihiga Queens will open their fourth straight title hunt against Wadadia Ladies in the opening match of the 2020/2021 season set to kick off this Saturday.

Fixtures released by Football Kenya Federation indicate that Vihiga who have won and dominated the league for the past three seasons will open their calendar away from home when they welcome Wadadia Ladies at Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County.

Speaking about the return of the league, Vihiga Queen’s head coach Alex Alumira exuded confidence in challenging for thetitle for the fourth consecutive title.

“We are okay and though not very much ready, we’re in a position to start the league. We have 90 percent of the players we had and will still try defending the title.

Wadadia are a very good side with a lot of quality players who have high technical ability and speed,” Alumira told People Sport.

Four matches are scheduled for week one. In Zone B, besides Vihiga Queens vs Wadadia, Trans Nzoia Falcons and Eldoret Falcons will square it out at Kenyatta Stadium in Kitale while on Sunday, two derbies are lined up in Nakuru and Kisumu counties.

League mainstays Oserian Ladies will host newcomers Nakuru West Queens at Oserian Grounds in Naivasha in a Nakuru derby as Kisumu All Starlets welcome  SEP Girls from Oyugis at Moi Stadium, Kisumu, in the lakeside derby.

Before Covid-19 hit and disrupted the 2019/2020 season that had just kicked off, promoted side and Division One champions Nakuru West Queens had a dream start, winning their opening match and coach Ben-Peters Esitoko is craving for the same.
