Waiguru, MCAs bury hatchet after long-drawn feud
Sharp political differences between Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) witnessed for the better part of this year have come to an end after they resolved their differences.
Both Waiguru and MCAs claimed their supporters were to blame for fanning the fires leading to the differences.
Led by Tebere Ward MCA Gudson Muchina, the leaders said it was their supporters who were pushing them too much leading to the animosity that has been prevailing.
“As from this moment, we have agreed that our development agenda should prevail and we have resolved that we start with ensuring that each of the 20 area Wards get six kilometers of road improvement by the end of this year,” Muchina said.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting at a Sagana town hotel, Muchina said Wards in Mwea would be given priority under the new-found truce that brought to an end the acrimony that had characterised the county’s political leadership.
He said roads within the Mwea Irrigation Scheme which were in a poor state would benefit from the move after the local Water Users Association chairman Morris Mutugi who was present in the meeting raised concern over the matter.
Waiguru on her part said following the new found unity of purpose, all efforts would from now on be geared towards service delivery which locals yearned for.
“In this regard, we have today put all our differences aside as we endeavor to serve those who bestowed us the honour to lead them, and in this regard, my government has donated 13,000kg of certified rice seeds to benefit farmers in Mwea,” she said.
The governor said out of the 13,000 kg, 10,000 were those of the popular Mwea pishori while 3,000 were for hybrid seeds.
