Waiguru reiterates she is unlikely to join UDA party
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has reiterated that she is unlikely to join Deputy President William Ruto-linked UDA party.
In an interview with a local radio station on Monday, Waiguru said it is also too early to make conclusions that she will not join UDA.
Waiguru however did not deny or accept any possibility of making the next political move as she leaves the fate for her supporters to decide her next move.
The Kirinyaga Governor says it is still early to decide which route she will take in the 2022 general elections.
"I don’t think it’s the right time to have that conversation. I can’t say I would, I can’t say I would not. This is politics, it’s unlikely, but a bit early. Let’s see what the ground looks like," she said.
According to Waiguru, re-election is not entirely dependent on how well one has performed during his or her tenure.
Waiguru who is serving her first term is allowed by the constitution to serve another term as governor before she can seek a different seat.
"I cannot vote myself in, so, I’m listening very carefully to what it is that they want. In politics, it’s not just about performance, you can be a fantastic performer and not be re-elected," Waiguru said.
Waiguru further said that anyone who thinks they have performed and therefore should be re-elected is very naïve in politics and sometimes believes politicians are elected on waves of political parties.
Come 2022 general elections Waiguru will face a stiff competition against Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Purity Ngirici who has also declared her interest in the gubernatorial seat.
