Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru now says her latest predicaments with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are directly linked to her political stand.

Taking to her official Twitter account, the controversial governor who was listed among the 241 aspirants EACC wants to bar from contesting in the August 9 elections stated that the attempts to block her were founded on the basis of rumours, allegations, and cooked stories.

While terming the attempt as frivolous, Waiguru wrote:

"Were it not for constitutional safeguards that separate investigations, prosecution, and adjudication, EACC on behalf of their Harambee House masters would have hanged some of us for moving to UDA,"

She added: "On the basis of rumour, frivolous allegations & cooked stories without the need of a trial. Fortunately, culpability under our law is determined on the basis of evidence & not by them. Trying to manage electoral issues thru institutional State capture won’t cut. Not in this Kenya!"

Waiguru and 240 others barred from contesting

Waiguru's sentiments followed immediately after the EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak asked that the 241 aspirants who had failed to meet the ethical standards required to seek positions are blocked from contesting for seats in the public office.

In the move set to verify the 21,862 candidates seeking positions in public office, candidates such as former Governor Mike Sonko (Nairobi), Evans Kidero (Nairobi), Daniel Waithaka (Nyandarua), Godana Doyo (Isiolo), Nathif Jama (Garissa), Simon Kachapin (West Pokot) and Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi are all in the EACC list.

Others include; Murangá Governor Mwangi wa Iria, Governors Ali Korane (Garissa), Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Dhadho Godhana (Tana River), Fahim Twaha (Lamu), Mohamud Ali (Marsabit), Okoth Obado (Migori), Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos).
