Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru yesterday came out gun blazing accusing Interior PS Karanja Kibicho of fanning political hostility in the county.

In no-holds-barred attack, a day after spending nine hours with investigators at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday, Waiguru termed Kibicho “a primary catalyst in the destructive politics” that now characterise the county.

“I learnt with consternation that the informed impeachment motion was carried out with your tacit support. You are the primary catalyst to my political problem,” she charged.

In an open letter to the PS, the governor sensationally claimed that Kibicho has been supporting and funding, a well-orchestrated scheme to destabilise her administration.

Waiguru was on Wednesday questioned over Sh10 million false imprest claims. But in the letter, she attributed the investigation to a wider scheme to get her out of office.

The governor, who has been at loggerheads with majority of elected leaders from the county—including ward representatives, who last month voted to impeach her before their decision was overturned by the Senate.

She also accused Senator Charles Kibiru and Kibicho of working in cahoots to frustrate the Building Bridges Initiative in the Mt Kenya region.

“During the conversation with 20 MCAs who have ganged up and sworn to make Kirinyaga county ungovernable, you beseeched them to stay united and not to split since it is a matter of time before you (Kibicho) and senator took over the reign of BBI in Kirinyaga and Mt Kenya region,” she wrote.

Kibicho has consistently denied any links to the governor’s woes, stressing his only interest in Kirinyaga was development.

On Wednesday, detectives grilled about 30 officials involved in the processing of the payments for the alleged Waiguru trips said to have been between 2018 and this year.

The probe was to establish, among other things, if the said trips existed, the actual amount of money paid and received by Waiguru and if the imprest was accounted for in full within the stipulated time as per the law.

The Senate had asked EACC to investigate the allegations. The Kirinyaga MCAs, for example, had in their petition, raised the issue of imprests among other allegations.
