Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was yesterday booed by a group of  youth in Kagumo town where she opened a new market.

The youth were demanding to be addressed by Mutira MCA Kinyua Wangui.

Trouble started when Waiguru blocked Wangui from addressing the meeting, saying she would not allow him to continue insulting her in public. She said that while she respected other leaders, the MCA did not return the gesture.

“Respect is a  two way traffic and I also deserve to be treated fairly as a leader,” she said.

It was then that the youth rose up in protest and demanded that Wangui addresses the meeting.

Efforts to cool down tempers by security officers and the governor were unsuccessful.

Waiguru bowed to pressure and handed the microphone Wangui, which restored calm.

Wangui denied that he was undermining the governor and said he supported her agenda.

He claimed his political enemies were peddling falsehoods to drive a wedge between him and the governor.

“My enemies are antagonising me and the governor. I’m supporting development projects of the county government and my foes should stop misleading the governor.

Waiguru later dismissed the hecklers as hired goons.

“Those were not residents. They were goons given money to cause chaos,” she said.

Waiguru said she did not advocate violence and urged residents not to agree to be used by politicians to frustrate her from delivering on her mandate.
