The hearing of a graft case where former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu is accused of irregularly awarding over Sh 588 million roads tender was adjourned until September 19.

Milimani Anti-Corruption chief magistrate Thomas Nzyoki put off the trial after EACC forensic detective Alex Kinyanjui presented documentary evidence showing Sh221 million was paid to a roads contractor by Kiambu county.

“There were nine out of 42 invoice transactions for the upgrading of gravel roads in the county,” said the officer.

Kinyanjui was testifying in the case in which Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari, Testimony Enterprises Limited and others are facing trial over the irregular award of Sh588, 198,328.20 roads tender in Kiambu county.

The officer told the court from the Integrated Financial Management Information System (Ifmis) that some of the invoices had approval information while some did not.

“I was granted read-only access files authorisation to access the Ifmis. This was through a letter from CS Treasury dated March 1, 2017,” said Kinyanjui.

“From Ifmis, some of the invoices did not have approval information but others did.”

Kinyanjui confirmed TEL was a registered supplier in the Ifmis and all the invoices in favour of the company were updated by county officials.

He told the court that he was tasked to collect information from Ifmis regarding payments made by the county to TEL.

“The tender in question was issued on February 12, 2018, and awarded to Testimony, owned by Charles Chege.”
