Wamalwa asks Kenyans to support Uhuru in fight against COVID-19

Kiminini Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa on Friday said the coronavirus outbreak has caused changes in the working patterns rendering thousands of workers redundant and asked the government to put in place mechanisms to resuscitate the ailing economy.
The MP said the outbreak has brought out the worst situation in the Kenyan workers daily lives adding the country needs to rethink its strategies and once again rump up workers’ skills to revamp the economy after coronavirus.
Speaking to the People Daily at the Kiminini Deputy County Commissioner’s Office where he handed over his donations of hundreds of assorted bags of rice, green grams, cooking oil, washing soap, detergents and 30, 000 three ply face masks to be shared among the vulnerable persons, Wamalwa said observation of the Ministry of Health guidelines will help flatten the graph of infections.
"In strict adherence of the guidelines issued by the Health Ministry on overcrowding, I can't issue what we are donating directly to the people and this is why despite the people's lack of faith in the chiefs and their assistants we are handing over these consignment to the DCC," said the MP.
Wamalwa said Kenyans are indebted to President Uhuru Kenyatta for tirelessly working round the clock to ensure all Kenyans are safe from the raging pandemic which has killed so many people in other Countries.
On the Labour Day celebrations, the National Assembly’s Deputy Minority Whip said though the day was being observed under very difficult circumstances, workers stood to benefit from the president’s personal commitment cushioning them from the worrying impact on their day to day jobs and income security.
"Despite all these measures, many workers now enjoy less income because there is no overtime pay and the self-employed find it even more difficult in the current economic conditions to earn a living. I hope that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s commitment and that of the Central Organization of Trade Unions ( COTU) has today provide some relief," he said.
The MP pleaded with the President to open up churches and allow them operate under strict guidelines issued by the ministry of health in order to allow faithful to get spiritual nourishment which he said was a prerequisite for better health.
