Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has told Kenya Kwanza politicians to stop blackmailing Raila Odinga over his criticism of the government.

Although Raila is running for the African Union Commission chairmanship backed by William Ruto's government, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader has not stopped criticising the ruling party.

To Wamalwa, the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance will remain the voice of Kenyans.

"Our message to Kenya Kwanza is; stop blackmailing Raila Odinga over the AUC chairmanship for calling you out on corruption and incompetence and declare the current flood crisis a national disaster!

"Azimio will not be gagged and will remain the voice of the voiceless, silent, suffering majority of Kenyans," Wamalwa said in a statement on X.

Raila's recent attack on the government was made when he visited Mukuru where houses were demolished and this ruffled feathers within the Kenya Kwanza outfit.

The former Prime Minister went full throttle against Ruto's government and told them to stop demolishing the houses or else they will be forced to defend the people.

"Let them (the government) stop demolishing houses in Mukuru. If they try to demolish the houses, call us. If you want to relocate the people build good houses and prioritise these people. Do not demolish houses for the people when they do not have a place to go. Citizens are not animals. Have a human heart," Raila said.

"If you come by force… we are the force. We shall come together and die with you. Mukuru must stay," Raila said on May 3.

Aaron Cheruiyot, the Kericho County Senator, is among the Kenya Kwanza politicians who have come out to criticise Raila over his bold criticism of the government.

"Tinga's constituency now is African Presidents. They hold the key to his next election. He is out here insulting a man they all hold in such high regard.

"On election day, when they evaluate his credentials, how do you imagine it will end? Maandamano in Addis?" Cheruiyot wondered.

Paul Mwangi, a long-time ally of Raila, answered Cheruiyot and said the opposition's top leader would not sell his soul because of the AUC bid.

"Firstly, I can tell you that the AU job is not a life and death deal for Baba. He would not sell his soul for it.

"Secondly, I wish you knew how many Kenyans out there are so unhappy about the AU job that they would believe God answered their prayers if Baba didn't get it," Mwangi said then.

Raila officially announced his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson job on February 15, 2024.
