Wanyonyi hits back at city critics
Westlands lawmaker Tim Wanyonyi has told off a section of Orange Democratic Movement legislators opposed to his candidature for Nairobi county governor’s seat.
Wanyonyi who addressed the press yesterday from his Nairobi office said city residents should be left to make their own decisions without being influenced.
Wanyonyi (pictured) said he is ready to fight for the party’s ticket.
“I am already aware that some ODM members are unhappy with my quest to lead the city. Everybody is entitled to their opinions but the reality is that I am ready to go through all the party structures to get my ticket,” he said.
The lawmaker spoke after it emerged that some Nairobi MPs allied to the Orange party have been working behind the scenes to ensure he is denied the party ticket.
Insiders claim the MPs, led by Makadara’s George Aladwa, argue Wanyonyi is too “weak” to fight cartels at City Hall.
“Nairobi is not just like any other county. It is a special region that requires someone who will be rough enough to deal with cartels,” said Aladwa.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang’ and Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris are some of the city legislators who have reportedly expressed reservations regarding Wanyonyi’s candidature.
