We are ready to send our photos, ‘defaulters’ tell Helb
Kenyans on social media ganged up to mock the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) after it threatened to publish photos and names of loan defaulters in newspapers.
In a document believed to be authored by Helb and intended for public notice through newspapers, Helb vowed to take the action over unresponsive defaulters.
"Please take note that the names and pictures of Hebl loan beneficiaries who have defaulted repayment of the loan from 1975 to date shall be published in the leading newspapers after the expiry of 30 days from the date of this notice," read part of the statement.
No sooner had the notice appeared on internet sites than netizens took to social media, telling Helb that they are ready to have their photos and names published.
Some Twitter users were ready to send their photos to Helb for a 'moment to appear in the media'.

Helb had earlier warned that over 390,000 graduates are holding Sh37.2 billion in loans.
The board intends to 'publish' details of beneficiaries who have defaulted on their loans from 1975 to date.
