We don’t hate Raila but it’s unfair to our supporters for Jubilee to support him, Senator Kang’ata says
Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata says he is unhappy that the ruling Jubilee Government is showing signs of supporting the ODM leader Raila Odinga for presidency come 2022.
Kang'ata laments that many of those who supported Jubilee have not benefitted from the government yet those in opposition are reaping big.
In an interview with Citizen TV, the former Jubilee Majority Whip adds it's unfair to millions of Jubilee supporters to have Raila endorsed for the top seat ahead of people who fought so hard for the government.
"I cannot support Raila Odinga, I do not support his politics and therefore I’m a little bit unhappy when I see Jubilee Party moving towards Raila’s corner," he said.
The Senator says many of Jubilee supporters spent a better time of their political lives opposing the ODM leader and, therefore, it is impossible for him to gain drastic traction even if the ruling party endorses him.
"We have spent so many years fighting against Raila Odinga. To suddenly begin supporting him is being unfair to your supporters who have been supporting you 100 per cent," he said.
Senator Kang'ata, however, says the Mt Kenya region does not hate Raila as believed.
He faulted the ODM leader for being in the comfort zone at a time he should be making political inroads in the Mt Kenya region.
Kang'ata says the ODM leader is waiting for political endorsements instead of hunting for votes just like Deputy President William Ruto
"The idea that the people of central Kenya dislike Raila because of ethnicity is not true," he said.
"How come Ruto has become so popular in our region? It has everything to do with political laziness. Raila has been staying in Nairobi waiting for endorsement," he added.
The Murang'a Senator is one of the ardent supporters of the DP Ruto and has already endorsed him for the country's top seat.
Kang'ata was kicked of his office as majority whip after he wrote a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta informing him that the BBI is unpopular.
Sources says the Senator is eyeing Murang'a gubernatorial seat in 2022.
