Two clinical officers yesterday admitted forging medical documents of Migori Governor Okoth Obado personal assistant Michael Oyamo without examining him hours after the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby.

Cliff Momanyi and Justus Magati Moindi, who testified yesterday in the murder trial, explained to the court in detail how they faked medical records to show that Oyamo had been assaulted by unknown people and sustained multiple injuries.

“All the medical documents were forgeries. I am the one who did the forgeries and received Sh1,500. I regret my actions,” said Momanyi during the hearing.

In this case, the Governor, Oyamo and Casper Obiero, a clerk in Migori County Government,  are charged with the murder of 26-year-old Otieno and her unborn baby.

During yesterday's proceedings of the case which is being heard by Justice Cecelia Githua, Obado and Oyamo  could be seen dozing off several times.

Moindi, who worked for Migori County and Referral Hospital, revealed to the court how on September 4, 2018, Obiero and Oyamo came to see him at the hospital having first confirmed where he was at the time.

Lost money

“When they came, Caspal told me that they had a problem and they wanted to see me privately. I asked whether it was related to medical treatment and they said yes. I asked them to go and buy a card at the reception but they told me they wanted to talk to me first,” Moindi told the court.

He said the two waited for Moindi outside as he attended to other patients but he noticed they seemed in a hurry and, therefore, asked them to come in to be attended.

“Oyamo told me he had lost a lot of money belonging to the governor and he did not know how to explain it to him. He said he was on a journey but as he approached Kisii, he was attacked by unknown people. He asked whether I knew anybody in Kisii hospital who could assist him get a medical report,” Moindi told the court.

The court heard that Oyamo wanted the medical reports to indicate he had sustained injuries so that he could go for an X-ray to check the extent of injuries and since he was attacked in Kisii, he wanted the report to come from Kisii.

Moindi told the court that he called Cliff Momanyi who was his classmate at the university and who works at Kisii Referral Hospital and requested him to write an X-ray (CT scan or MRI) report for Oyamo.

“I handed over the phone to Oyamo who explained to him his details,” he told the court.

Momanyi told the court how he was introduced to Oyamo by his friend Moindi through a phone call.

He said Moindi told him his friend Michael Oyamo had been attacked by unknown people and needed a form for X-ray.

He admitted to forging the documents and said he risked being barred from practising.
