We were not invited to the Friday meeting, Ndindi Nyoro and Wahome say
Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome and her Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro claim they were not invitated to the Murang'a leaders' meeting held on Friday.
The two claimed they learnt about the meeting through social media but to their surprise all the other leaders were present.
Speaking during a joint projects inspection tour in Kandara and Kiharu, the duo accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i for failing to invite them to the meeting.
Local leaders among them governor Mwangi Wa Iria, senator Irungu Kang'ata, Transport CS James Macharia and Water PS Joseph Irungu, women representative Sabina Chege, and five MPs were in attendance.
The legislators, however, said the meeting whose agenda was to discuss the development agenda in the county was just a publicity stunt as it should have been held way before the budget was prepared.
They argued that all the projects that the government intends to undertake in the county have already been factored in the budget and thus nothing new was expected.
"We feel the meeting was held in favor of some leaders who wanted to propagate their own agenda but not in the interest of the people of Murang'a," they said.
Wahome said if Matiang'i wanted her to attend the meeting, he would have either sent a letter, a text message or call her to inform her about it.
"May be I am not needed in the meeting or they didn't find it necessary to have me present," she said.
"If I could not be invited then I wonder if the people I represent are from a different country" she added.
She however said she is contented with what the government is doing for the people of Kandara and that is what matters.
"We have a lot of work to do on the ground instead of going to be paraded in a meeting just to be seen by the public.
Ndindi on the other hand said if he was meant to be part of the meeting he would have invited but that was not the case.
The MP said what matters most is what the leaders are doing on the ground but not who attends what meeting.
"I know which meetings to attend to discuss the interests of people of Kiharu and this was not one of them" he said.
"We could also have been left out because of our skin color the two of us are dark and the other leaders have light skin" he said.
He however said he reads ill political motive claiming its just a way of trying to intimidate them due to their political affiliation.
"We are staunch supporters of the Deputy president William Ruto but still we recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as the president and our stand is not going to change," he remarked.
The two said they are not going to bow to any intimidation saying they are ready to hold the bull by its horns.
"The executive should stop intimidating leaders and issuing threats because this is not going to change anything," they remarked
