We’ll deliver credible exams process, assures CS Machogu
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu yesterday assured that both the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) would be credible.
Speaking in Mombasa where he led a multi-agency team on the first day of the 2022 KPSEA and KCPE examinations yesterday, Machogu said tough measures have been put in place in the more than 20,000 centres across the country to nip any exam malpractices in the bud.
“We have made the necessary preparations and we have enough personnel. Supervisors and invigilators and centre managers were taken through their roles and what they are expected to do. So we are well prepared. Each centre will have at least two security personnel,” said the CS who braved a heavy downpour during the monitoring exercise in Mombasa yesterday.
He said there are also helicopters on standby to dispatch examination materials in areas that could be inaccessible such as Tana River county and the North Eastern region.
“Information I have got is that the examination has started well and we expect a smooth examination in the entire country,” the CS said.
Machogu also disclosed that the 42-member Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms is expected to deliver its final report within the first two weeks of December. The report, he said, would give the final standing on where the Junior Secondary shall be domiciled.
“The Presidential Task Force was formed sometime in September by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya. They were given clear terms of reference. They are covering basic, tertiary and university (education). They are coming up with a report soon and soon enough, probably in the first or second week of December,” Machogu said.
Best way
He added that thereafter, the Head of State would make an announcement on the best way to implement the Competency-Based Curriculum.
“They will be able to present the initial report to the President so that from there now, the President will be able to make an announcement to Kenyans where our Grade Seven will be domiciled come next year when we are opening the schools on the of January 23,” he added.
Head of State had earlier vowed to use the report to streamline the new curriculum to avoid burdening parents and teachers.
Machogu further refuted claims that parents will be inconvenienced if at all the CBC report will be delayed.
The Minister urged parents to be patient and trust the government on implementation of new education policies.
