Political leaders from Western Kenya have hatched a plan to dethrone Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as Luhya spokesman and replace him with ODM deputy party leader and immediate former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Mudavadi has been heavily criticized by a section of the leaders who accuse him of abandoning the community by supporting President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

The plans were revealed on Friday when political leaders Eugene Wamalwa DAP-K party leader, Oparanya, George Wajackoya of the Roots Party, Caleb Hamisi (Saboti MP), Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and Luanda MP Dickson Maungu it is time to remove Mudavadi as Luhya spokesman after failing to champion the rights of the community.

They said Mudavadi has gone to bed with Kenya Kwanza government, which has imposed punitive taxes on citizens hence forgetting his mandate as a spokesman. They said it was betrayal for Mudavadi to rally behind a section of MPs from House of Mulembe to vote for the Finance Bill forgetting the negative impact the bill has on his people of Western region.

“Time has come to remove Mudavadi as Luhya spokesman he has failed the people of Mulembe. We are organising a big rally where we shall declare the removal of Mudavadi as Luhya spokesman and endorse Wycliffe Oparanya as our new Luhya spokesman. Mudavadi as our Luhya spokesman has failed us for supporting the Kenya Kwanza government that has imposed punitive taxes on our people,” said Wamalwa.

The leaders said it is sad politicians from Western whom voters trusted and gave them a job of representing their interests chase their own benefits at the expense of electorate.

“It is a big betrayal for the leaders you elected to represent your interest go to chase their own benefits. Such leaders are of no importance to you,” said Osotsi.

This the second time Mudavadi is facing a revolt as the Luhya spokesman after he was dethrone as Luhya Kingpin on December 31,2016 and replaced by Oparanya who was installed at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega County in a scheme organised by Cotu secretary General Francis Atwoli.

By then Oparanya was unveiled as the Luhya spokesman in a ceremony boycotted by Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula who was by then Bungoma senator.
