Why lawmakers want Duale kicked out of Assembly seat
As the purge on Deputy President William Ruto’s allies from top leadership positions in Parliament continues, National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale may not after all survive the axe.
People Daily has reliably learned Duale, a close ally of the DP, could also be shown the door after President Uhuru Kenyatta was prevailed upon to drop him over what has been termed as “hypocrisy and lack of respect”.
Sources, who spoke in confidence said while he was to be spared initially in the elimination of Ruto’s allies occupying key positions in the National Assembly, his “double speak” would derail Uhuru’s agenda as his term enters the homestretch.
Lack respect
“Duale, has done a magnificent job, but he has to go because, at any given time there will be only one boss not two, he has been working in cross purposes with the government of the day,” intimated a source privy to the ongoings in the troubled Jubilee Party house.
The sources also indicated that though the Garissa Township MP enjoys a cordial relationship with the two Jubilee principals, the President and his deputy, he is alleged to have helped in mobilising senators allied to DP to boycott the President’s meeting at State House.
“We have credible information that he was part and parcel of the shenanigans that refused to attend the PG convened by the President. This clearly shows lack of respect to the party and its leadership,” the said the source.
Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi, one of those backing Duale’s ouster, accused the Majority leader of “working at cross purposes with the President.”
Gedi, a fierce critic of Duale, says as soon as the House reconvenes from the short recess on June 2, the Majority leader should be shown the door.
“Hear our cries Mr. President, for us to have a united and a peaceful country, put the two Houses in order,” she said.
Gedi added: “We cannot have Aden Duale as a majority leader prosecuting government business yet day-in-day out has been abusing and disrespecting the President. He must go.”
Supporting Duale’s removal, Tiaty MP William Kamket said the country cannot have a government working at cross purposes that is shouting at each other, where the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.
