Diana Otieno, the widow of Wadau TV founder James ‘Cobra’ Oduor who was killed during the 14 Riverside Drive terror attack last year recalls the joy and pain that marked this day a year ago.

The next day was his birthday and she had woken up energised by the thought of the ‘surprise’ she was going to spring on him. What she did not know was that fate had unpleasant surprise for her.

“He died on the eve of his birthday and I had made plans which unfortunately turned into agony for me and my family,” Diana recounted on the eve of the attack’s anniversary.

It has been a long year for Diana as she tries to come to terms with her husband’s death.

“I took a while before coming to terms with reality and I started mourning afresh when everything had settled and the many people around me went away. It was difficult but I have found strength and solace in speaking to people about his life especially those who knew him,” she said.

Having lost the family’s sole bread winner, Diana had no choice but to adjust and find a job to sustain herself and her two children.
