Kakamega Homeboyz and Nzoia Sugar have a grand opportunity of closing the gap on early pace-setters Tusker in tricky Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League matches this weekend.

Homeboyz and Nzoia, who are placed second and third respectively in the table, have amassed seven points apiece, three shy of the ones collected by Tusker.

Kakamega Homeboyz popularly known as Abana Beingo welcome FC Talanta at Bukhungu Stadium.

Nzoia will be at their fortress at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma to face struggling Nairobi City Stars and victory for either of the western Kenya side will reduce Tusker’s lead to only two points.

Last weekend, Homeboyz failed to live up to their expectations when they were held to a one-all draw by Ulinzi Stars but the team’s coach John Baraza said he is unfazed by the result and has insisted that his charges are still work in progress.

“This is not the kind of result we wanted. We had a huge chunk of the match but profligacy in front of the goal was our main undoing.

“That is now water under the bridge as we have rectified some frailties here and there,” said Baraza.

New dynamics

He added:” We have been trying to introduce some new dynamics and new methods that are ideal for a team thirsting for the title like Homeboyz”

As for Nzoia coach Salim Babu, he reckoned that he is happy that his team is making great strides in the new season and will be seeking to build on their shock 2-1 win over KCB last week in their quest to scale the ladder in the standings.

“The players have adapted well. Of course, I do not expect things to be any easy but the good thing is that we have the quality to conjure up the victory,” Babu said.

City Stars have yet to taste victory in the league and the statistics do not make comfortable reading for Simba wa Nairobi who are entrenched at the basement of the league after inexplicably dropping points in their latest fixture- against Posta Rangers.

Despite the draw, both sides improved from losses from the last round of games, City Stars having gone down 2-1 to FC Talanta and Rangers shaking a 1-0 loss to Ulinzi Stars.

City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti is expected to tinker with his squad by perhaps introducing Jacob Osotsi, Elly Mungai and Jacob Osano who sat out of the match against the mailmen while retaining his regular point men including Ezekiel Odera, Ronnie Kola and Samuel Kapen.
