Will Tusker intoxicate opponents?
With a few hours left to the beginning of the local premier league action, already former champions Tusker FC are feeling the heat due to lack of proper preparedness.
The 11-time league champions have only signed four players during the transfer season and let go three with their first assignment against 14 time champions and title rivals AFC Leopards fast looming.
The Covid-19 pandemic has played a major role in disruptions and Tusker FC have been no exception with their coach now venting his frustrations clearly.
Coach Robert Matano who recently just returned from a medical rest has bemoaned the fact that he cannot have an organised group training session because of restrictions.
Matano who is a former Ulinzi, Sofapaka and AFC Leopards coach has warned that his team would struggle because he had not seen his players train as a unit thus difficulty in assessing them collectively.
“We are not training as a team and this is a difficult situation for us. For us to improve, we have to be together instead of a few individual brilliance.
When you play one friendly that is not exactly adequate because I need to see consistency.
Definitely our season might be difficult because of that factor alone and so we just have to wait and see,” he said.
The no-nonsense coach also stated that his team was not yet ripe enough and lacked fitness.
“I need to work on a style and system of play with a competitive match in mind.
However, my team is still not adequately prepared for the battle ahead and so for that matter I will still be working on cohesion.
We need to find something to push us assuming we are in a real game situation,” offered Matano while speaking to People Sport on the phone.
The Brewers managed to bring on –board right-back Wellington Ochieng from Gor Mahia alongside midfielder Christopher Oruchum from AFC Leopards. Other incoming players include Kevin Monyi from Western Stima and Jimmy Ndungi from Tusker Youth.
Tusker last season in position three, by the time the league was brought to a premature conclusion due to the coronavirus pandemic and Matano believes that after they pick up momentum, they could easily win their 12th league title.
