Makueni Member of Parliament (MP) Daniel Maanzo now says Wiper legislators will not allow their party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to be interviewed to deputise Raila Odinga in the Azimio la Umjoja-One Kenya Alliance for the August 9 presidential election.

Maanzo said Kalonzo has deputised Raila twice and no interview was done.

"Our position as the followers of the Wiper Party, the third leg of Azimio-OKA is that the Hon Kalonzo Musyoka should not apply to the committee that was set up to interview for the position of the deputy president of Azimio-OKA," he said.

The MP said Kalonzo's track record speaks for itself.

"Our position is that the track record of Kalonzo Musyoka of over 30 years in politics as an MP, minister and vice president and two-time running mate for Raila Odinga should not be questioned and he should not apply to that committee," he said.

Maanzo said the first and only qualification of a running mate is the number of votes he is bringing to the table.

"Political interviews are done publicly and during elections. The qualification of any running mate is the amount of votes he is likely to bring to the table," he said.

He added that summoning Kalonzo to appear before a committee amounts to an embarrassment.

"No Kalonzo, no Raila," he insisted.
