Two dogs maul woman and son to death in Siaya County
A mother and her son were yesterday mauled to death by fierce dogs that had escaped from a kennel in Ugenya sub-county in Siaya county.
Ugenya Sub-County Deputy Police Commander James Ngao said the incident occurred at Siranga within Simur Kobiero Location. He said the deceased, Caren Akinyi, 28, and her one-year-old son were attacked by two dogs as they walked along the Ukwala – Ugunja road. The dogs were said to belong to a local villager who rears hybrid dogs.
“A caretaker of the home reported that the dogs escaped from the kennel and he had tried to trace them in vain,” Ngao said, adding that it was not until yesterday morning that residents came across the bodies with dog bites that they also spotted the dogs. Irate residents turned their wrath on the dogs killing them instantly.
The bodies were moved to Ukwala Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem as police also launch investigations into the unfortunate incident.
