Police in Homa Bay County are holding a woman over the alleged murder of her husband.

The suspect, Lucy Anyango, is suspected to have killed her husband Michael Ondiala at Miyoro in Kajwang sub-location within Ndhiwa Constituency on Wednesday afternoon.

Yesterday, Anyango was arrested after she had gone to seek protection from the local assistant chief, Enosh Nyawade, at Kobodo trading centre in Kanyamwa Kologi. She told the chief she was seeking rescue from a mob that was baying for her blood over the alleged killing of her husband.

Anyango said they engaged in squabbles which degenerated to a fist-fight following a disagreement over plans by her husband to marry another woman as his second wife.

She said her husband took the woman home on Tuesday evening and announced that, henceforth, she would be his second wife, adding that she was beaten up when she objected.

“I escaped and spent a night in my neighbour’s house after the beating. He beat me again the following day when I returned home to wash my clothes for my children,” Anyango said. She has two children.

Anyango confessed that during another fight she picked a kitchen knife and stabbed Ondiala in the stomach when she was being strangled.

Ondiala succumbed to injuries later.
