A sombre mood yesterday engulfed Omboo area in Suna East, Migori County after an expectant mother allegedly committed suicide.

The deceased is said to have strangled her three-year-old daughter before taking her life during the Tuesday night incident.

Samuel Ondiegi, the area village elder said the deceased was alone with her daughter when she committed the act.

Ondiegi said that the deceased used a rope to strangle the girl before taking her own life.

“I received the information at around 7 pm and immediately rushed to the scene after informing officers from Migori police station and upon arrival, it was established that the woman identified as Candeva Muvinya, 26 had committed suicide,” he said.

He added that upon arrival, they found all doors closed from inside which forced the officers to force their way in.

Ondiegi said the deceased was reported to have been at loggerheads with her in-laws who did not want their son to marry her.

The deceased did not leave behind a suicide note.

Confirming the incident, Suna East OCPD Esau Ochorokodi said they have launched investigations into the matter.

The body of the deceased and that of her baby were moved to a nearby mortuary awaiting for postmortem.
