Work with Deputy President Ruto, four Ukambani MPs tell Kalonzo

The push for Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to form an alliance with Deputy President William Ruto gained momentum at the weekend with four Ukambani MPs described it as the “best opportunity” for the community to be in government.
Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town MP), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East) and Kangundo’s Fabian Kyule told Kalonzo to consider working with Ruto.
They said Kalonzo stood a higher chance of ascending to the presidency by working with Ruto.
“I want to advise Kalonzo to move fast and team up with Ruto,” said Musyoka.
Muli said it was in the interest of Ukambani voters that Kalonzo work with Ruto to enhance development in the region.
Muthama meeting
Three weeks ago, former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama disclosed that he would organise a meeting of politicians and professionals from all regions in Ukambani to discuss how they can cooperate with Ruto in the 2022 election.
Kalonzo, however, distanced himself from Muthama’s remarks.
On Saturday, Ruto asked the Wiper leader to consider working with him in the 2022 election.
Speaking at the funeral of former Cabinet Secretary Cleopas Mailus’s mother, Ruto said Kalonzo should try a different formula as his support for Raila in the 2013 and 2017 elections failed to yield fruit.
“The only mistake I made is that I failed to tell Kalonzo their candidate would not become president. Stephen, I helped Uhuru become president twice and he is about to retire. Let’s walk together,” Ruto said.
Kalonzo, however, steered clear of the discussion, saying there exists no pact between him and Ruto on 2022 succession.
