Chinese businessman donates to Botswana to fight COVID-19

A Chinese businessman based in Botswana'S capital Gaborone on Tuesday donated 1.6 million Pula (about 142,000 U.S. dollars) worth of testing kits to the Botswana COVID-19 Relief Fund.
   Miles Nan, who is the managing director of Mileage Group, in April 2020 also donated 250 litres of hand sanitizer's to Botswana Defence Force and 500 litres of hand sanitizers to Ministry of Health and Wellness.
   "Mileage Group having its business operation in Gaborone, Botswana from as far back as 1999. We are here today joining hands with other business sectors in solidarity to fight against coronavirus commonly known as COVID-19. As the virus spread globally, we pledge our commitment to support the fight against the monster to the end," Miles said.
   In his appreciation remarks after receiving the donation, Botswana Vice President Slumber Tsogwane said the government has received overwhelming support from the business community in the fight against COVID-19.
   Tsogwane said the donations would go a long way in assisting the country win the war against COVID-19.
   He encouraged Batswana to continue abiding by the protocols in order to keep the virus at bay.
   Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi lifted a 48-day lockdown last week on May 20, 2020. As part of the containment, Botswana has been divided into nine zones to restrict movement of people, allowing swift responses in the event of an aggressive outbreak. The public will be allowed to freely move within their zones without permits. So far, Botswana has recorded 35 COVID-19 positive cases with one death.  (Xinhua)
