Somali health ministry on Sunday confirmed 29 new cases of COVID-19, raising the national tally to 164.

Health Minister Fawziya Abikar said 21 persons of those infected are male while eight were female.

The ministry has called on citizens with COVID-19 symptoms to swiftly dial a toll-free number, 449, which has been set up for the public to seek advice and report suspected cases across the country.

The Horn of African nation has instituted measures to contain the possible spread of COVID-19, including closing schools, banning large gatherings and suspending international and domestic passenger flights.

A nigh curfew took effect on April 15 in Mogadishu to help enhance measures against COVID-19 amid fears the disease could spread fast given the country's fragile health system. (Xinhua)
