Women Premier League teams have a reason to smile after the Football Caretaker Committee announced that they would also receive Ksh300, 000 monthly grants, the same as their male counterparts, to cater for facilitation.

This was announced on Friday by Anthony Isayi, a member of the committee in charge of finance, who said they had resorted to treating both set-off competitors equally without discriminating.

“Women football has been overlooked for a long time in the country, with the Women Premier League teams previously receiving peanuts compared to their male counterparts. We have decided the change the narrative and going forward, the women clubs will each receive Ksh300, 000 a month just like the male teams,” Isayi told People Sport.

Meanwhile, action galore are in the offing this is guaranteed this weekend as the exciting Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League (FKF-WPL) enters a round of five with six thrilling matchups lined up across the country.

League leaders Vihiga Queens will be seeking a fifth straight victory when they visit hosts Kayole Starlets at Stima Club tomorrow.

The Boniface Nyamunyamu coached Vihiga is the only team in the league that has yet to lose a match with the tactician overly keen on maintaining the status quo.

“Collecting three points in every match makes me strong and ready to work hard and there is no room for complacency. My ambition is to win the WPL. I’m optimistic we shall achieve our ambitions,” said Nyamunyamu.

Second-placed Gaspo Women who bounced back to the second position after edging Zetech Sparks 3-2 last weekend, will be seeking to get their fourth victory of the season when they host newcomers Kangemi Ladies at Stima Club today.

In another fixture, Bunyore Starlets and Trans Nzoia Falcons will come face to face at meet at Mumboha Stadium, Bungoma in a local derby.

Although stakes are not as high, Bunyore will be seeking to put behind them an embarrassing 6-0 thrashing by Ulinzi Starlets last weekend.

Elsewhere at ASKL Showground in Nakuru, Ulinzi Starlets will face Nakuru City Queens at ASK Showground, Nakuru in yet another local derby.
