Siaya Senator James Orengo has questioned the loyalty of his main challenger in the governor race, Nicholas Gumbo, to Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Orengo accused Gumbo, a former Rarieda MP running on a United Democratic Movement ticket, of being disloyal to Raila.

“Nobody has gone against Raila’s wishes and succeeded in their ambitions in Nyanza,” said Orengo, adding that he did so in 2002 and lost the Ugenya parliamentary seat.

Orengo said he was among many leaders who fought alongside Raila for many decades to ensure good governance and deserve to be rewarded for their loyalty.

Addressing a campaign rally at Ahindi Gardens in Siaya town, Orengo said Gumbo had disrespected Raila on several occasions.

“Siaya is Raila’s backyard and the person who can run its affairs is the one who has his trust,” he said.

Orengo dismissed Gumbo, saying he did not play in his league.

“Gumbo does not match me politically,” he said.

Orengo said when Raila campaigns in Siaya next week, he will insist on six piece voting.

“The only way to make Raila Odinga deliver his manifesto as president is by ensuring he gets more elected leaders on his party ticket,” Orengo stated.
