Youth leader criticised at home for ridiculing DP Ruto’s wheelbarrows

Youthful leaders in Trans Nzoia have intensified their calls for the rejection of the Building bridges initiative (BBI) for failing to allocate extra constituencies to some counties.

Trans Nzoia County Jubilee chairman Richard Chesebe on Sunday said the move to reward some areas with more than 20 extra constituencies while denying others was abuse to other Kenyans and demanded that the constituencies be spread to other regions.

Speaking on the People Daily Sunday, Chesebe accused some politicians of hatching plans to water down the gains of the 2010 constitution and said their youths will be voting against the BBI.

He further lashed out at politicians who had renewed war on the DPs resolve of donations to the youth through the hustler initiative.

"Anyone who does not raise a penny during a funeral of a one-day-old child should not blindly stand up pointing accusing fingers at the DP for giving youths some wheelbarrows. You are saying this is a waste, what have you given youths apart from using them to climb the ladder?’’ he asked.

Chesebe hit out at ODM youth leader Alex Matere for disrespecting the Deputy President by ridiculing his wheelbarrows donation to the youths.

"How dare you say a wheelbarrow in the hands of youths in an urban centre is a waste and offers no solution to the runaway unemployment which has affected the majority of the youth population in the country? It is sheer lack of political manners referring to the wheelbarrows as the 16th-century inventions which can not be used during the 21st century,’’ a furious chesebe asked.

He said contrary to the notions that youths were not entrepreneurs to be issued with wheelbarrows, many were happily using them in transacting businesses that were putting food on their tables.

He dismissed Matere and other leaders opposed to the hustler initiative terming them masqueraders hanging on the coat of ODM leader Raila Odinga for political survival.

Matere in response said Kenyans are not fools to be lectured on who is a liberator of this country , adding that youths should not be fooled into believing that wheelbarrows would emancipate them from abject poverty caused by some politicians through corruption.

“Who in this country doesn’t know that it is the Rt. Honourable Raila Odinga who has helped liberate this country? Anyone else claiming to be liberating the youths from poverty by giving them wheelbarrows and handcarts is just but a political squirrel out to look for their skins to make soup,’’ Matere said in response.

He challenged the youths not to be hoodwinked  into blindly falling for politicians with enticing honey that could turn into poison.

Both Matere and Chesebe have declared interest in the Trans Nzoia county senatorial contest to unseat Trans Nzoia county Senator Dr. Michael Maling’a Mbito.
